AI-nticipating a glorious weekend away in the Derbyshire Peaks at #CampEd24

Exploring the use of AI assistants, I thought it might be fun to ask one to write me a short story about our upcoming trip to Derbyshire for #CampEd24. (The trip will take place from May 24th – 27th, to a hostel in Ilam, and here are still a few places available – read more at https://bit.ly/3Vq1uXN)

The prompt was: “a group of teachers and educators, a weekend away with families, in a hostel and camping, in Derbyshire Peaks”. I did not train it on any of the previous accounts of CampEd trips, or try to train it in my writing style, but just let it do its own thing, and it was distinctly more romantic and less laconic than anything I would have written. But it still came up with a pun in the title!

Title: Peaks of Knowledge

In the heart of the Derbyshire Peaks, a group of teachers and educators gathered for a weekend away with their families. The crisp mountain air filled their lungs as they arrived at the rustic hostel nestled among the towering trees.

Excited chatter filled the air as tents were pitched and campfires were lit. Children ran around, their laughter echoing through the valley. The educators, usually confined to the walls of classrooms, embraced the freedom of the outdoors, eager to explore and unwind.

As the sun began to set, the group gathered around the crackling fire, sharing stories and experiences. The educators spoke of their passion for teaching and the challenges they faced, while the children regaled everyone with tales of their adventures in the wilderness.

Under the starlit sky, a sense of camaraderie and connection blossomed among the group. Away from the pressures of their daily lives, they found solace in each other’s company and the beauty of nature surrounding them.

The weekend passed in a blur of hikes, campfire meals, and shared moments of joy. As they packed up their belongings and bid farewell to the hostel, the educators and their families knew that this weekend in the Derbyshire Peaks had not only been a getaway but a bonding experience that would stay with them forever.

And as they drove away, the echoes of laughter and the memories made in the Peaks lingered in their hearts, a reminder of the power of togetherness and the beauty of the great outdoors.

Twee, yes, flowery, yes, and almost as camp as the rather disturbing #CampEd illustration above, created by another AI. Also rather Blyton-esque in style, maybe it should be “Famous Five go Mad in Derbyshire”? But all in all, not too far from what it is like to be at a CampEd and enjoying time with fellow educators!
